Complementary Feeding Guidelines:
At 6 Months of Age
- Start with pureed foods, introducing one new food at a time.
- Ensure foods are well-cooked and pureed to a thin, watery consistency.
- Begin with 2-3 tablespoons of food, 2-3 times a day, gradually increasing the amount.
- Continue breastfeeding at least 8 times a day or on demand.
- Offer thicker purees or mashed foods.
- Continue adding breast milk or water to make food easy to swallow.
- Include all four food groups.
- Gradually increase portions from 2-3 tablespoons to half a bowl (120ml), 2-3 times a day.
- Continue breastfeeding at least 8 times a day or on demand.
- Introduce finely chopped or mashed foods and finger foods.
- Gradually increase portions from half a bowl (120ml) to a full bowl (250ml), 3-4 times a day.
- Offer healthy snacks, such as fruits, 1-2 times a day.
- Continue breastfeeding at least 8 times a day or on demand.
From 12-24 Months of Age
- Feed your child family foods, ensuring they are well-cooked and chopped or mashed as needed.
- Include all four food groups in their diet.
- Provide a full bowl (250ml) of food, 3-4 times a day.
- Offer healthy snacks 1-2 times a day.
- Continue breastfeeding on demand.
